Stately Winter Botanicals
Stately Winter botanicals - harewood house
9th December 2018
The team at Harewood House and I have worked together to create a magical day of immersion into florals and botanicals, from the history of the house to actually getting involved outside yourself and of course making your own gorgeous wreath.
Every part of the day will tie into my love of this wonderful season and the huge array of often overlooked treasures for festive decorating that is available to all of us.
Enjoy a touch of foraging from the vast estate…
Learn about the botanical history of the Still Room, our ‘Below Stairs’ workshop for the day …
Create your own stunning wreath…
And SOOO much more…
So join us at Harewood House on December 9th 2018. It is in such an amazing environment it will be a lovely, slow and mindful way to build up to Christmas. How often do you spend the time to go out in December and see the natural beauty around you, let alone pick it and use it?
Focussing totally on ingredients that are available in the garden, hedgerow or roadside, I guarantee this will make you look differently at everything around you.
This is the only festive event I will be doing and I won’t be selling any wreaths this year.
We will be working ‘Below Stairs’ ( very Downton!) with lots of exciting activities to entice you, including a private, tailor made tour of the festively dressed house and much, much more.
The day will start with a private, tailor made tour of the festively dressed house, focussing on flowers and botanicals. We will then move down to the Still Room (which holds its own interesting botanical history) where I will demonstrate how to make your own large, natural and everlasting wreath using dried herbs, roots, seedheads, foliages and trimmings from Harewood’s gardens and grounds as well as from my own Yorkshire cutting garden and local hedgerows (and even the tips at the house - I LOVE using the most innocuous of ingredients!).
The wreath will last all year round and would happily grace your lounge wall as a natural piece of art.
After a private festive afternoon tea in the newly opened Billiard Room, not previously seen by the public, I will guide you round the Terrace Garden and point out all the garden has to offer at this time of year, you will start to see new found potential in every stem, stick, root and leaf.
You will also get a guided tour of the large wreath installations I designed and created on the terrace, taking you through the initial concept, the foraging and ‘finding’ to the actual making of these dramatic, one-off pieces.
Then you head back inside to the Still Room to make your own oversized wreath to take home, not forgetting to take your welcome gift too!
You will have then have the option of revisiting the house and gardens again at your leisure until they close at 6pm.
