About Us

Wedding and Event Floristry, Flowers for Business
Yorkshire, Cheshire and Lancashire

Firenza Floral Design is a luxury wedding and event floristry business offering beautifully natural and scented floral designs across Yorkshire, Cheshire and Lancashire (and further afield if required!).

altFiona Pickles owns and runs the business, which was created in 2005, having left a previously successful career in the Print Industry in Leeds and Manchester.  Fiona initially worked with a local wedding florist and then trained with Jane Packer in London.  She came back to Yorkshire in 2005 and set the business up, with no customers and no shop no-one even knew Firenza Floral Design even existed.   Fiona’s reputation gradually grew and her work now speaks for itself - Firenza Floral Design is now one of the most highly regarded wedding and event florists across the north of England and in 2012 Fiona was commissioned to create flowers for a private luncheon for Her Majesty The Queen and Prince Philip.

Fiona won a Wedding Industry Award in 2008, beating off stiff competition from florists across Yorkshire, Cheshire and Lancashire. Fiona also demonstrated at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in 2009 and was voted Best Wedding Florist in Yorkshire/North East in the 2013 Wedding Industry Awards.

The name Firenza Floral Design came about because Fiona was keen to use a name that meant something personal and her grandmother’s name was Florence (Firenza is a form of the Italian for Florence).  Amazingly, Fiona found out after she had chosen it, the meaning of the name “Florence” is “flowering” or “blossoming”, so it was even more appropriate than she realised!

dadFlowers obviously run in the family – this is a picture of Fiona’s dad, who sadly passed away when Fiona was just 17, pictured (in a very fetching outfit!) clutching a beautiful bunch of flowers - just a little tribute to him x

Our other, less well-known members of the team keep increasing in numbers - we now have Oscar, Ruby and Flo - our "Quality Controllers",  they are all rescue dogs. Oscar is a German Shepherd cross, he came from the Dogs Trust in Leeds and is very wary of people, especially men.  Ruby, a blue and white whippet/greyhound (a "grew") came from Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue and is the total opposite, no fear, loves everybody she meets and thinks everyone loves her.  Ruby loves nothing better than chewing all the cuttings on the floor - the more prickly the better!!  Flo is a blue whippet and came from Lurcher Link (a charity that I help out from time to time on the odd occasion I have a free moment!) and is more pure whippet than Ruby, she is a total cuddle monster and does a mean Chewbacca impression!

This picture was taken before we got Flo, at an open day for Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue at Oakwell Hall where Ruby met up with Harry, who fostered her before she came to her forever home with us.  Oscar just worried about everything :(
